Newtown Borough Block Party To Benefit Alpha Bravo Canine

NEWTOWN BOROUGH, PA - Newtown Rotary NextGen is bringing back its South State Street Block Party fundraiser on Sunday, Sept. 22 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

South State Street will be closed to traffic between Centre Avenue and Penn Street for the free event, which will support and benefit Alpha Bravo Canine.

"Come on out on Sunday and help us support Alpha Bravo Canine. We have a full day of fun planned, including games, food trucks, and lots more," said Kira Altomari, Newtown NextGen Rotary President. "This is the first State Street Fundraiser under my presidency, and I'm excited to meet more community members and raise money for a great cause."

At the heart of the event will be 30 vendors and food trucks that will line State Street between Penn Street and Centre Avenue. Each of the participating vendors have been asked to offer at least one carnival game or children's activity at their booth. The games can include everything from a record toss to balloon games, corn hole, bean bag throw, obstacle course and shuffleboard.

"As a Rotarian who started in NextGen at the inception of this event, I'm both proud and thrilled to see it return to State Street this year," said Stephanie Eubanks, Newtown Rotary Club board member. "This NextGen club is really special, and has such a positive energy. I'm happy my daughter gets to experience the camaraderie of this event again."

Rotarian Andrew Neville will be spinning the tunes at the event and will be centrally located. Food trucks can be found near Penn Street and include Thai Cha Chak food truck, Rita's Water Ice, and Goodnoe Ice Cream. Local businesses, such as Naked Chocolate Company, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Applebee's, and Adorn Me, have donated gift baskets to be raffled.

Organizers have also incorporated the Eagles game into the event schedule. At 1 p.m., the game between the Eagles and the New Orleans Saints will be shown on a television outside of Relic at Centre Avenue and South State. The TV will be raffled at the conclusion of the event, with raffle tickets being sold during the event.

"I'm really excited for the State Street Fundraiser because I'm a new member of Newtown NextGen Rotary. I haven't experienced this event yet, but I'm excited to see the community come together for a fun weekend and to raise money for this deserving non-profit," said Ria Agarwal,
Newtown NextGen Rotary secretary.

All proceeds raised from this year's event will benefit Alpha Bravo Canine, whose mission is to raise, train, and donate trained service dogs to U.S military veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injury (TBI), and other combat-related disabilities. Funds are raised through sponsorships and vendor fees.

Newtown Rotary will have a table at the event with capabilities of collecting additional donations for Alpha Bravo Canine. The organization plans to bring a few of their K9's in training, and will be featuring its portable "puppy kissing booth." Donations are suggested.
